100 Strangers : No. 51 : Patricia

Patricia from Arnold Art Society takes me into the second half of my 100 strangers series.

A couple of times each year the Art Society have an exhibition at the local community centre, showcasing various members work and providing publicity and raising awareness of the society.

We always visit the exhibition as it is only a few minutes walk from our house.

Sunday afternoon was a lovely sunny day, so after lunch we took our whippet on a "two park" walk (St, Mary's and the "Duck Park") . Anyway on the way back my wife said shall we go straight to the exhibition rather than go home and then go out again. It seemed like a good idea, so my wife went in first and I stood outside with our whippet.

I realised I probably looked a bit out of place waiting outside, Scruffy tracksuit bottoms, trainers, a dog and a bag for life with various dog related items...toys, spare lead, hand gel, plastic bags. Anyway, I nodded and said hello to various people as they entered and left the exhibition !

When Jane came out, she went home and I went into the exhibition to admire the Art (oils, watercolours, pastels, acrylics and much more).

While in the exhibition I met Patricia one of the organisers. There were a couple of artists painting and I asked Particia and the artists if it would be OK to take a photo of the artists at work.

I showed Patricia some of shots on the back of my camera and explained I was secretary of Arnold & District Camera Club. I also told her about my 100 strangers series, telling her I was up to stranger number 50.

I asked Patricia if she fancied being "stranger number 51". At first she laughed and said "No".

I went on to explain to her it was part of a worldwide community and all very respectable, telling peoples stories, I showed her some of my other images on my camera including stranger number 49, the coach driver from the previous day.

Patricia, then said "Ok then go on" !!

I asked if she would step outside of the community centre as there was a really nice wall that would make a great backdrop to a portrait (I'd been staring at the wall for about 10 minutes while Jane walked around the exhibition).

Patricia is on the committee of Arnold Art Society and was responsible for organising the exhibition. She'd done a good job too as there were approx 120 pictures (Patricia gave me the numbers) , cream teas, raffles, a couple of Craft stalls and print sales.

Patricia has been a member of the society for about 9 years and had returned to organising the event after a short break from being the main event organiser.

Patricia likes working in watercolour, acrylics and oil (I pinched that bit from Patricia's profile on the societies web site.

I took Patricia's email address and I will send her some of the shots I took

I edited the photo in Darktable (I use Rawtherapee most of the time, but I am trying out Darktable as an alternative) and utilised the mono conversion wheel to manage the mono colour filters !

Thank you for being one of my strangers Patricia.

This picture is number 51 in my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page

What a lovely portrait! You found the subtle light from the right to give defining shadows on the left of the face. Beautifully done. Fav.

Fav for a wonderfully vibrant portrait in b&w. I liked reading about your persuasive skills. And what a shame that Jane did not take a shot of you, Phil, in your doggy walking regalia!

Another perfect portrait capture, Phil. Permit me to say that one thing that has attracted my attention (and which I don't really like) is the bi- or vari-focal lenses of her spectacles. What do you think?

Good for PatricI & I bet she was pleased she'd said yes in the end. Nice to see another woman on your 100 strangers list Phil.
