Who would have thought that this little gadget could be so liberating to myself and my colleagues at work.
This little gadget allows me to connect from my 'home computer' or a 'work laptop' to the corporate network of the company I work for. It even allows me to connect to my desktop computer on my desk in the work office.
What does this mean and how is it liberating? Well it means (a) I can support the IT systems I work on 'out of office hours' and even better (b) it allows me to work from home one day a week and therefore avoid the long commute to work.
I can sit in my spare room at home and have the same functionality as being sat in my desk in the office.
Of course one needs to be disciplined when working from home, but it does help create a better work life balance and is much appreciated.
The gadget is known as a 'secure id' and the numbers on the front of the gadget change every minute and when used in conjunction with your secure id pass code allows you access the network
So there you go a little gadget that has helped both me and my colleagues at work
Phil..this is a very useful gadget! It amazes me how much has changed in the last few years in the technical world! I have always thought I would like working from home but I don't know if I could stay focused enough for that.
@patsyjphillips Patsy, you are correct a lot has changed in the last few years in the technical world. I mean who'd have thought a few years ago that people who don't really know each other would be exchanging comments, tips and tricks on a daily photograph !!
So THAT'S what it does!! I saw one on here recently on another 365ers page but had no idea what use it was. Very liberating indeed. And a great saving on time, fuel, emissions .... like it. Thanks.

As for working from home I'm sure you would mange OK.
I seem to manage and as for being distracted, you tend to focus a bit when one of the computer systems you are supporting is not working right or has fallen over !

As for security, maybe the corporate world security is a bit stricter than the education world.
The image is more a reflection of something I use on a regular basis , that has made a difference to my working life :)
