THE END OF THE LILLIES by phil_howcroft

THE END OF THE LILLIES

During February I posted 2 pictures of some lillies that were in a vase in our house.

The first one showed them before they bloomed:

The second one was a close up inside one of the flowers:

Now the lillies have died and are laid on the soil of our garden. looking very very sad.

I didn't know if this picture was too sad to show here, but then decided that this it what happened to them anyway.

But all is not last, they will go into our compost bin in the next couple of days and will therefore help produce a rich compost which will help produce some beautiful flowers and a bit of soft fruit.

So it's not a sad picture, more a 'green' picture as they are part of the 'green recycling process'

Yes, it's sad, but you made them immortal with your pics.

Sad to see them go to the compost pile but happy that the beautiful images were shared of the lillies and that the compost will bring new life to more flowers.

@gill Gill thank you very much for your words. I never thought I could fill three days worth of pictures with one vase of flowers ! It's good though that they are going to be recycled :) As you say ...perfect

I like to think of this a good thing. Being green is great, you benefit twice from one purchase!

Made me think about buddhism .. and the essential truth of impermanence .. "Oh, this is the joy of the rose: That it blows, And goes."

I like it. The circle of life is lovely. Thx for the cropping idea. I did play with that idea but it seemed to make the picture less interesting by taking out the context.

@seattle Thanks Constance, we all try to be a little bit green in our own ways

@gill ha ha Gill, four days from something, that is a big challenge for me !! I'll have to put my thinking hat on ...not that I own a hat !! Actually I do have a hat ..a 2 euro straw hat I bought in Menorca ...classy eh ?

@gill Ha Ha, I did think of doing 4 days from 1 hat (50 cents a picture) as i typed the reply, but I think I might struggle with that because it's not got much character and it's not very well worn as it's from my summer 2010 collection !!

Phil,
I do shoot in raw and I set the white balance to custom and take a photo of the snow then use that photo for the balance. What I could have or should have one for the snow shots was set the custom balance before each shot to be perfectly accurate.
I have read that using the cloudy setting when shooting snow is the best preset but I find custom is almost always better.

From dust we come and from dust we shall return. No shame in that. A good close to your series.
