SAINT MARY'S CHURCH, ARNOLD, NOTTINGHAM

I did an image in B/W shot from our local ASDA (Walmart) car park a few weeks ago of this church dominating the landscape (see below)

Well this is another image of the church, this time shot from the bottom of the church path.

I've got a long lead in line of the path and I've done a crop and a bit of tilt to try and remove the converging verticals. Pity I've missed a bit off the tree on the right hand side , but maybe that does not really matter.

It was about 6pm so the sun was quite low shining on the stone work

Everything you ever wanted to know about St. Mary's church is here:

Hope you like the image ;

great shot - love the low evening lighting and the path leading to the door. Great spring flowers to add some colour!!

Love the angle here. Great shot!

I like the low angle - goes well with the low lighting. My eyes are drawn along the path and then to the bare tree on the left silhouetted against the sky. Nice composition :O)

I love it! When I think of country churches in England, this is what I envision. I favorited this.

This is beautiful Phil..you are drawn into the scene by the pathway..one of my favorites!

beautiful pic, and loved the whippet shots too!

Beautiful photo, Phil, of this glorious old church - one of my favorite subjects. The pathway is wonderful with its flowers, and the sunshine and shadow combination is very pretty.

@sarahhorsfall Cheers Sarah :), glad the image meets with your approval, I never noticed the silhouetted tree

@joi Thank you Joi, thank you for the 'fave' too. The church does have a lookf of a country church...the gardens are lovely. When it was originally built there was nothing around it, but now it resides in quite an urban setting, with roads and houses nearby :)

@patsyjphillips Patsy, thank you for your support and many thanks for the 'fave' too. The borders by the pathway always have a splash of colour , whether it be spring bulbs, summer flowers or autumn (fall) reds and yellows.

@jenrobcarr Jennifer, I'm pleased you approve of the church and the whippets too :)

@kerristephens Thanks very much Kerri :)

What do you mean 'a bit of a tilt'?! I get converging verticals - don't know how to cure them! Lovely shot!
April 6th, 2011
@judithg I've got photoshop elements, i did 'help' and it told me to do ..... image...transform...perspective. I tried it, but it did not make that much difference !! You get converging verticals when you point your camera upwards taking a building, rather than keeping your camera level !!

Glad you like the picture

And this time in colour too! Nice lead ins.. did you try taking the shot from lower to add impact?
April 6th, 2011
@gill Gill thanks for your comments, yes I think it is ok about the tree. If I put the whole tree in then you end up trying to loook around it and it becomes a blocker rather than holding the frame in ! Hey I justified it myself :), just needed a bit of convincing from yourself :)

@robinmersh Hi Robin, yes I always tend to get down low to try and get long lead in lines and impact of scale. I'm sometimes shooting blind because you cannot see the viewfinder or little display on the back of the camera !

lovely shot, great composition!!!
