The Pope’s Desk by phil_sandford

The Pope’s Desk

Spent yesterday at St Dominics convent in Stone, Staffordshire attending the funeral of my Great Aunt, Sr Mary Alberta, who died shortly before Christmas aged 101. The service was a full Requiem Mass, led by no less than 4 Priests and was a wonderful celebration of this great lady.

We were wonderfully hosted by the nuns from the convent and honoured to be offered a tour. In the library was this quite splendid desk, owned by Pope Pius who died in the early 20th Century and, somehow, it wnded up in Stone.

Thank you for your views, comments and favs on yesterday’s offering. Much appreciated.
An amazing work of art!

Sorry for your loss mate. 101 - wow, she must have seen a thing or two in her lifetime. This is a wonderful looking piece of wood, the carvings are gorgeous. And you've captured it beautifully 😊

Your aunt would have felt very loved and honored, I'm sure. Wonderfully intricate old desk. Looks like it has been well cared for over these many years.
