Opal mines

Approaching the township of Coober Pedy, it looks like the gophers have been at work. There are mounds of dirt everywhere as people dig for opals. Its a hot, unrelenting outback town where many people live underground - it also gets pretty cold in Winter!
Fascinating! The heaps don't do much to beautify the scenery.

Hobbit people? I think opals are my favorite stone. I’m surprised anyone lives there. They must be resource people.
