Flower-burst

I have tried many different strategies for photographing this bloom. I didn’t like what I had when it was at its most colorful, but this is how it started: http://365project.org/rhoing/365/2012-04-04
Not capturing the entire head is a bit out of my comfort zone, but I think this composition works better than what I’ve been trying up till now. This shot, with all the little tan “swirlies” on the ends, makes me think of a spore-spewing plant from an old “Star Trek” (original) episode.

I like the way you've cropped this, Thom. You don't always need to get in the full flower to make the shot interesting! Great detail!

The ends look like tiny tomatillos! This is a great photo of the flower, Thom!
