Purple Crownvetch

Another flower at the lake. Native to Europe, “Securigera varia” is a low-growing legume vine. A member of the “pea” family (“Fabaceae”):
• Illinois classifies it as “invasive” — http://www.invasive.org/species/list.cfm?id=152
• Missouri considers it a “pest plant” that “threaten Missouri's native biodiversity” — http://www.mobot.org/MOBOT/research/mepp/Securigeravariamap.shtml
