A fern by any other name? by rhoing

A fern by any other name?

And this one seems to have *lots* of names!!

I'm expecting this to be “Thelypteris kunthii,” which I posted previously — http://365project.org/rhoing/365/2013-02-21 — but in B&W.

Several common names: Kunth’s maiden fern, Southern Shield Fern, Southern Wood Fern, Southern Maiden Fern, River Fern, Widespread Maiden Fern.

Several scientific synonyms: Dryopteris normalis, D. saxatilis, Thelypteris macrorhizoma, T. normalis, T. unca

When I was growing up, we lived next-door to a professor of botany. His backyard had a great variety of exotic plants. I was in that yard last year, and it is still the same as I remembered. Your plant explanations remind me of his enthusiasm.
