Springtime flowers #7 by robz

Springtime flowers #7

They don't look like flowers but they are actually tiny Greenhood terrestrial orchids. About 3 inchs high for the biggest one. These are not as healthy or prolific as usual - it's been very dry for them.
Lovely new green shoots!

It was great to read all of your comments and interesting to hear that these were new to some of you. I realised that the photo is a little confusing - the plant itself is the small rosette at the base of the stalks. These plants are growing on a rocky slab with lichen, broken rock and assorted sticks and small ferns. The tall structure is the actual flower - the hood hides all of the reproductive parts of the flower. We've seen 3 different species of these on our rocks - always exciting to find them. Thanks again for your interest. Cheers Rob
