This image is very descriptive of the conditions in our area at the moment. This is a native Eucalypt - they are renowned for survival in dry conditions. This one is still fighting but looks to be loosing the battle.
it's just so soul crushing isn't it? Last summer we lost some huge old eucalypts around the area in the drought and I fear that some that just scraped through are going to find this summer too much.
Oh gosh, that's awful. This drought is causing so much environmental damage it'll be hard for some things and places to recover if rain ever comes again.
@golftragic We are very worried about the small terrestrial orchids in this area. They die off in winter and just survive as a small bulb in amongst the lichen. If they don't get enough moisture to sprout this year we don't quite know if they will survive to next year. We have our fingers crossed.
@koalagardens It is awful Katrina - we have had a few large ones look like they are dead- maybe they will shoot again if we get some rain. A lot of the smaller ones that we've been encouraging are just plain dead. Like you I'm worried about Summer!
