i did things my way. i defied tradition and convention - the first daughter in the family has to take care of her parents and siblings, get married and still the care taker, be an old maid and end up the maid of the whole family. no, sir, i didn't want that.
i wanted to live my life the way i wanted to. but i sent my younger siblings through college, had the family house renovated, took it upon myself to raise a child like it was my own, sent myself through college while working full time. i took my own apartment at age 25, raising people's eyebrows. dated the men i wanted (and loved), got engaged three times, married and divorced. lived in four continents. learned to speak foreign languages.
the secret is do what you think is right for you, do what you want but be careful not to step on people's toes (although some of the time you got to). take up the hobby you think you enjoy.
there would be times when things don't go as you planned or wanted, but just the same, enjoy the ride!
and if you need to kick out some kids at the park so you can take self portraits for your challenges, tell their parents the photos would be posted on the internet and they scamper away.
and keep your promises. do not make promises that are impossible for you to fulfill.
and be true to yourself.
that's the secret!

i wrote something completely different from the above but along the same line but got erased before i had the chance to save the darn thing. :-(
and those slides were pretty filthy i had to clean them good before i slid in them. yes, i brought with me some windex. hahahahaha!
Love what you say, Vikki - true to yourself and an example of great enterprise and achievement! Still got your sense of humour and sense of right! Three great photos!
I too love what you say - I am the only daughter and have done everything except the old maid bit, older brothers say "oh she'll sort it!" btw love the pics
Great photos, you got some lovely autumn colours behind you in the first one! Thank goodness you said no to tradition and being an old maid, good for you! 😃
I love "the secrets" you've shared with your joyful, playful photos! I think you shared a great deal with your family, even while still young. I wonder how many me-generation young people on this North American continent would do as much before the age of 21. It takes courage to shed conformity, but when you embrace your freedom, willing to live a trial-and-error life until you find your stride, the reward is inestimable! Through writings by others here, I've ascertained many unfortunate starts in life, but the rewards that came from inner strength. ...Perhaps I'm becoming too philosophical...just wanted to say that I admire those who've shaped the lived they wished to have...it's possible for everyone who dares to be courageous! So good for you! Jump for joy! And thanks for tapping me on the shoulder to be sure to stop by! ♥
