this is one of three young girls i engaged in a short conversation at the japanese garden in chicago. they all agreed to be photographed, i gave them my email address so i can send the photos to them but they haven't contacted me yet. pity i could add it to my 100 people which had been stalled at #26 since 2014.
Lol Vikki - you are so patient - and what a shame you couldn't add to your 26 with this lovely shot. Actually, why can't you? Is there some rule about follow up emails??
@robz@louannwarren - i could actually, but I've read before that one requirement with the 100 strangers project is that you need to interact and be able to extract a short bio, such as their names and what they do. i'm almost dying just asking people to have their photographs taken, to ask for their names is natural enough and easy but to ask what they do, is delving into something more private and personal and i'm just too embarrassed to ask people i don't know for things like that. to me, i ask for permission and if i get it, i do what i have to do and that's it. then i scurry off and hyperventilate and try my best not to die. :-D
Vikki I could never do what @quietpurplehaze does and I really identify with your scurrying away. You got a fabulous portrait here and I don't think you used a long focus lens!! As you would type ACED it!!
I have to say that the asking etc, as you know, I find not a problem but writing up the stories is time consuming. Some portraits are just really good but others need more processing than I really like to do and I still cannot work out why portraiture as a photographic genre attracts less interest than all the other genres.......I am therefore slowing down but have taken 176 in 4 years.
@summerfield LOL Vikki - I can identify with all of that!! I think you are amazing to even approach a stranger. Maybe you are allowed to slightly alter the rules - if you end up with a lovely portrait you are allowed to count it! You could call it "Vikki's Law" !! :)
@30pics4jackiesdiamond - hazel @quietpurplehaze is the reigning ACE of stranger portraits. there used to be another lady here who does it like it's second skin to her but, alas! i forgot her name and i don't think she's still posting. i used to follow her but she's no longer in my list. she even writes long narratives because she would really chat up the people.
@summerfield you cracked me up with your answer to @robz@louannwarren - oh how I can identify with this reaction. Sometimes I think I am brave, but then I can't sustain it in anything like this. So, well done for asking these three. and going through with the portraits. I hope they ask for them - and am sure this young lady would be pleased. By the way - @phil_howcroft does a fine line in strangers.
@helenhall@quietpurplehaze Helen and Haze, thanks for the "name check" and kind words . @summerfield I do my 100 strangers project here and on flickr.
Flickr has rules that you must engage with the stranger and also have their permission to take photos, As you are doing your strangers here you can set your own agenda and rules, A little tip for you , I talk to the stranger while taking the pics and ask questions while shooting , it makes the process more relaxed. Just enjoy the project. I agree with Haze that the writing up of the story / meet can be a little time consuming , but really worthwhile :)
Good luck

Interesting - don't think I came across that lady. I only really know Phil @phil_howcroft on 365 who takes stranger portraits.
