i had been racking me brains as to how i was going to top yesterday's photo. and then i came to the harsh realization: NOT A CHANCE! but then, today a friend wanted to have a friendly "talk" about her personal problems so after tea, i suggested we go for a walk. and well, what do you know? we found ourselves at the base of the tower! so instead of topping it, why not bottom it? get it?
(it's a good thing, that friend doesn't know about my 365 account, or she would know i wasn't really paying attention to her because i think i gave her a half-ass advice, silly me. it's the tower's fault!!!)
"The original plan for the tower envisioned a tripod consisting of three independent cylindrical "pillars" linked at various heights by structural bridges. x x x As the design effort continued, it evolved into the current design with a single continuous hexagonal core to the Sky Pod, with three support legs blended into the hexagon below the main level, forming a large Y-shape structure at the ground level.
"To build the main support pillar, a hydraulically-raised slipform was built at the base. This was a fairly impressive engineering feat on its own, consisting of a large metal platform that raised itself on jacks at about 6 metres (19.7 ft) per day as the concrete below set. Concrete was poured continuously by a team of 1,532 people until February 22, 1974, during which it had already become the tallest structure in Canada. In total, the tower contains 40,500 cubic metres of concrete, all of which was mixed on-site in order to ensure batch consistency. Through the pour, the vertical accuracy of the tower was maintained by comparing the slip form's location to massive plumb-bobs hanging from it, observed by small telescopes from the ground. Over the height of the tower, it varies from true vertical accuracy by only 29 millimetres (1.1 in)." (source: wikipedia.org)
(sooc except for the framing and name tag - i went picnik-ing again!)
if you can't top it - -bottom it! I like that! New motto! Will have to cross-stitch that one on a pillow case for sure -- hahaha! Very clever -- I do like it! And this is a VERY cool shot!!!! You creativity has no bounds!
@slang - i also half-assed the framing, i see now! it's almost midnight! i'm going to turn into a pumpkin already! @sunnygreenwood - no, anne, thank you! @cscecil - that's a cool motto! you will have to post a pic of that pillow once you've done it. and i think my creativity well's running dry. i'm just warning everyone, if it rains tomorrow, a filler it would be. thanks, CS!
As always, great perspective! I think you just topped yesterday's photo...excuse me, bottomed yesterday's photo. *chuckle* *chuckle*. I have to Fav so I will always remember. Great shot - with a funny bone.
and p.s. i totally laughed at the story behind the shot.....loved it - i can't tell you how many times i've done that same thing....totally distracted by my camera...but trying to pretend like i'm listening....lol
That is one tall tower. I have never seen anything like that before. Incredible! And your shot of those benches is wonderful too. What a lovely place to sit and think.
@sticksandstones - LOL @silverdraggin - thanks, meiska. @danig - thanks, DG. @steeler - thank you, howard. @rynce - thank you, rynce. @jannkc - thanks, jann. bottomed it, i did! @the_urstoff - thanks, anthony. @deens - all 1800 plus feet of it. thank you, nadine. @jobesekama - beth, it was foggy so no skydiving. hahaha. thank you. @patticake - thank you, patti. @pamfromcalgary - thank you, pam. you need only bend your neck backwards when you're near the base. and that was because i refuse to lie down on the paved ground. :-)
