"the fog comes on little cat feet. it sits looking over harbour and city and then moves on." - carl sandburg
it's a grey, drab day in toronto. the whole city, or at least the downtown core, seem to have been enveloped by fog the whole day and well into the evening. the tower played "now you see it, now you don't", sometimes it was just its base that was visible from my vantage point at the office.
i had several missed opportunities with the fog this afternoon. i saw there was a break in the fog and the main pod seemed to float in the air. turned on my camera and before i could shoot that particular scene, the fog has covered the tower and didn't appear at all until after a few hours. twice it happened. the third time, i was engrossed with a bird and when i looked up, the mother ship had bid bye-bye. you bet i kicked meself hard in the ass. when i left the office after 6, i waited downstairs until after 7 and this is the best i could manage.
if it's still foggy tomorrow, i'd really be stalking the tower to get my shot. i just gotta do it! but partner mentioned about thunderstorm and photographing the tower when the lightning strikes. i wonder how much insurance he's put on my head. hmmmm....
I knew you would be out there. Glad you could find the mothership before it disappeared. Really cool shot! I love the fog hiding it. And I like how you've framed it too.
oh my gosh -- just when I think you can't come up with anything to "bottom" the one from the day before -- !!! Girl, you are amazing!! LOOOOOVE the fog -- !! And oh my goodness - I haven't thought about that Carl Sandburg poem in years!! What a cool, cool capture!!!
@cscecil - thanks, CS. i had carl sandburg in my head when i was thinking of a quote for 'fog', but couldn't quite get it right so i had to google it. i haven't thought about that poem, too, since high school!
@roth - am scared!!!! hahaha. that was pretty cool, sue. unbelievable. @pamfromcalgary - thank you, pam. i know for sure yours today isn't a foggy shot!
@silverdraggin - you have to remember the tower is 1,800 plus feet up in the air. that's the citibank building which is a block away from where i was. and the tower is well, six blocks away. thank you, meiska.
whew! internet's back on! 'tis a good thing i was at the office or i would've missed it terribly. @slang - one hour and 50+ shots, good timing? hahaha. thank you! @meggageg@rynce - thanks, kiddos! @jannkc - i must be getting old, i have more patience now. a photo book? hmmmm. that's an interesting idea. @eddyj - thanks, and we'll look forward to your postings. @jobesekama - thanks, beth.
