we chanced upon this display at one of the malls when we were looking for a 'game store' for the grands' Christmas present. i took a few shots of this in different angles. (oh, i heard a "stupid tourist" comment and sans looking i said you're more stupid, if i'm a tourist i'd be asking you to take my photo with this. did i hear anything more? but we rushed out of the mall just in case some stupid idiot got piqued being called stupid and might go postal on us. hehe!)
but i like this shot just because i can see the grands' and my reflections on the booth's glass.
Love the POV of this shot, summerfield. Great booth plus the people walking by. Plus the neat structure of the roof. We lived in england for three years and these red phone booths are very familiar and a great memory for me.
Cool shot Were in the hight of tourist season here and I, wandering around with the camera ... often gets mistaken for a visitor ,despite the odd ungracious tourist remarks ,kind locals often come and give me some interesting facts on my subject I'm photographing.
@bkbinthecity - eh, some people are just ignorant. thank you, brian.
@sticksandstones - hahaha! you won't find me in dark alleys, unless i have on my spiderman cape!
@steeler - one would think that with the digital cameras and cellphones with camera function, we'd all be used to people taking pictures and not make snide remarks like that. i think though that those are a small segment of the population because in general torontonians are a very friendly people. thank you, howard.
@danig - yes. this was cropped or it would've been too busy. i tried to take out most of what's around it but it didn't look right. there is a shot though at a different angle and it looked good, but for this angle, the environment gives it a better perspective. if i had cropped out the people it would look too cliché. thank you, mate. like having you here.
what a neat phone booth - and great capture. malcolm and i looked forever for a public phone one day and could not find one - you are so right about there being very few around since so many have cells.
@sunnygreenwood - thank you, anne. this phone booth was just at the mall for display/decoration.
@catsmeowb - thank you, camille. here in toronto, we still have a pay phone or two in the subway stations or the train stations. as it should because not everyone carries a cellphone. or maybe i'm wrong. well, as far as i know, i can go out of my home without my cellphone. i rarely ever use it. but when i was in manila, even the smallest child who could read a few letters have a cellphone.
You know my main reason for liking this and faving it? I LOVE the composition and lines in this. Those lines coming in from the corner, "pointing out" the booth, the metal pieces zigzagging around at the top, then the RED booth in the middle. And yes, I saw your reflections too! YOu better be careful mouthing off to people! haha I know at times people think I am a tourist...in my own city. Bah!
@espyetta - thank you, MB. i know what you mean about the lines (or beams, whatever they are called) that seem to emanate from the phone booth and give the impression of light rays. so i was right about this angle then. but it was really the reflection that made me like this shot in the first place. i appreciate your critique. you have a good eye and of course it's a plus that you have excellent teacher skills.
oh, an old fashioned British phone box! great composition study in geometry and light...lovely that you can see the reflections of yourself and the kids. And loving the story! still giggling as I type

@pamfromcalgary - thank you, pam.
@1invisiblegrl - hah! that makes thousands of us. thank you, virginia.
@cscecil - hahaha! CS you're so funny! and thank you.
