this is the most important thing i need to get to work. it's my monthly pass. with it i can take the subway trains or bus or the tram (streetcar) to anywhere in the city. i sometimes use it on the weekend, too, if i want to go somewhere by myself or if partner can't drive me around. but mainly i buy this monthly pass for going to work. so convenient to have it. if i want to have lunch uptown i can just hop on the subway, the station is just underneath my building, and be back in the office in time for a meeting or something (like work).
i pierce a hole in a corner and use a flexible plastic keyholder so it is attached to my purse and i can't misplace it or lose it. like i did three years ago. i dropped my pass whilst on a bus, nobody was kind enough to tell me and probably just swiped it. it was the middle of february, a short month and i had to buy a new one. the sad thing was no matter what day of the month it was, you pay full price. february, a short month, two full-priced passes. so, from then on it is attached to me or to my purse.
I wish we had this set up so I rode a train instead of driving my commute...less private but saves money, the environment, And you can read on a train.
@espyetta - oh, yes. i read everyone on the train. when i write a story, i get my characters' description from the people i see during the ride. and i have an incredible knack for listening in on their conversations. i used to carry a tape recorder with me all the time but the tapes got more expensive. thank you, MB.
Live and learn as they say. The second time I forgot to turn off the head lights and came out to a dead battery at the end of my (then) work day, I got AAA road service! And I am a freak about locking myself out of the car. I check and check and check- did I put my keys in my purse? I drive myself crazy with that! So this was a nice insight into your working world.
Your passes are pricey but they can get you a long way. Ours are only $94 per month and seniors can buy a yearly pass for less than $60. I can hardly wait..lol.
Nice focus on the pass! We have just swapped to Myki cards here - You have to buy one, then you charge it up with money. You can register it and cancel it if it gets lost, but I don't use mine enough to worry. I like your idea for keeping hold of your metropass though!
I recall years back in my train commuting days.... The train was rather crowded and the conductor was steadily making his way through the carriage and clipping tickets....when he got to us the chap next to me was frantically going through all his pockets searching for his ticket..to our amusement because he had the ticket held in his teeth ..the conductor getting impatient ,reaches up takes the ticket from the guys mouth ...clips it and moves on ..
Don't you feel sheepish now a fellow commuter asks him...with a quick look over his shoulder he replies no...that was yesterdays ticket ... I was chewing the date off.
@olivetreeann - thank you, ann. you won't believe it, every morning when i go to work, i would come back at least twice to my apartment - check the door, check the lock, check the stove (even though haven't used it for days), check the kettle, check the fridge door (which one time i left ajar and all the nice food had to be thrown). and after all that checking, i have left my lunch on the counter at least three times.
@pamfromcalgary - i can hardly wait, too, to get the senior's fare! most women would whisper at shops when they ask for a senior's discount. not me, i insist i'm a senior and i get carded. hahaha! the pass isn't much cheaper for seniors - $96! thank you, pam.
@alia_801 - thank you, alia. those passes can easily get lost. i witnessed a girl, all made up and dressed for an occasion, and her pass fell between the wall and the seat and no one could get it. i felt sorry for her. but after that time i lost my pass, i resolved it's not going to happen again.
@netkonnexion - indeed, a lost pass is expensive. $126 for the month. but you can use it everywhere in toronto. unlimited rides (as long as you don't lose it haha!). thank you, damon.
@slang - pffft! sneaky eh? well, if you want all your fans to come to P&M...hmmm...maybe that would be good for business. kidding aside, you never know who gets to read this. that's why i will erase it as soon as stop blabbing here. the writing retreat is in scugog, the uplands, whatever it's called, from 10 to 5. just in case i get lost in my driving, would be nice to have fish and chips. hahahaha! seriously i'll drop by if there's time. thanks, sean.
