i'm sure ann
@olivetreeann had been wondering if i would post a photo of food or cake for the last day of the selfless selfie. well, of course, it won't be me if there is no food. good food, that is.
when i was 28, i doubled (almost) my weight in less than a year's time, from 78 lbs. to 130 lbs. what'd i do? i ate chocolate. chocolate for breakfast, chocolate for lunch, chocolate for dinner and chocolate in between snacks. well, there were other food, of large quantity, but i like to blame the weight gain on chocolate. so i was sent to the fat farm. well, actually it was at 'joanne drew', a gym and weight watchers combined. they got me on an exercise regimen, a diet regime and cellulite massage and all those thingamajiggs stuff. in less than three months i was back to 100 lbs.
the diet was the hardest thing to get used to. rice, a staple of filipino diet, was a no-no. lots of veggies and fruits. meat the size of a match box (i tried to cheat by bringing them a box of long matchsticks hahaha! didn't work). but the consultant allowed me a day in which i could indulge or eat as much as i can. and eat i did on a sunday.
these days, i've learned to eat well, meaning the right stuff and the right quantity. i eat anything i want, in reasonable quantity. when we eat out, which partner and i love to do, we go to restaurants that offer gourmet meals using healthy ingredients. these days we like to go to melanie's bistro on the danforth. they don't have an extensive menu, but what they have are special and spectacular dishes. this grilled veggies quinoa is a side dish for their morrocan spiced salmon. their portions are just enough to fill you in, especially with the sides they serve with their entrées.
if you happen to be in toronto's east end, melanie's bistro on the danforth is one of the best places for a good meal.

it's not me if there's no dessert, so we go here for something special:

@karenann - did you want yellow peppers then? :-P joke! are you allergic or you just don't like your peppers? i suppose we can ask for more zucchini! thank you, karenann.
I am dieting too and I've seen some good results! My weakness is chocolate - LOVE Milk chocolate (not dark chocolate).
I have been eating salads, veggies, meat, cheese, nuts, seeds, fruit but reducing breads, rice, potatoes, cookies/cakes/deserts, etc. all those carbs.
I've gone down in a size since I started at the beginning of the year but don't know how many lb's. I have to do less cheating on the diet though - little is healthy. I'm thinking about doing a little more protein shake meal replacements too - but they are a bit costly so I can only do a little of that
@bkbinthecity - good thinking, brian. thank you.
@alia_801 - they were very tasty. thank you, alia.
@catsmeowb - awww, thank you for that vote of confidence, camille. that market though is saturated with lots of better photographers.
@myhrhelper - i wouldn't do the protein shake, if i were you. they could be addictive, and you also got the thinking that because it's good for you and you're substituting it for something else, you tend to have more. just do more protein and less carbs. and do a lot of brisk walking. thank you, kathy.
@cscecil - why, thank you, CS. are you coming over, too?
