partner had to do a special delivery this morning and my camera and i tagged along. after he had done his task, on a whim, he said that since we were more than halfway to his old hometown where his parents are buried, we bought a bouquet of silk flowers for the tomb. we should've done that last month during his parents' birthdays anyway. it's a photo opp so i said, pourquoi-pas?
at the cemetery, i took photos of some of the old tombstones of his distant relations and other ancestors. we also passed by his parents' farmhouse where we lived for a few years. the owners did not repaint the house at all and i saw some peeling on the walls by the sunroom. it was quite a nostalgic feeling. the one thing i noticed was the little crabapple tree on the driveway was cut down, as well as the hundred years old evergreens in the front.
afterwards we drove down to where his family used to live when he was a boy and the family farm where he had done a lot of work. then he saw a blue heron on a pond at the edge of the road and he pulled in to a driveway to go back. as he backed out into the road, i was looking at this sign and briefly, i thought something in it looked oddly familiar. then, at the same time i realized i was looking at my name, partner said, "hey, look, there's your name!"
it would have been a new sign, because when we used to live around there, i'd driven along here so many times, either with him or by myself. he said he barely remembers the summerfields. i told partner maybe i should write to them to see if they're my distant relatives. tee-hee!
four hundred and some photographs and this is all i could show for that trip.
thank you for your kind views and comments; know that they are much appreciated.
I LOVE this capture ... it just seems so perfect for you to discover this! I would definitely frame it and hang it. A great day for a photo op ... you were able to see so much! Wow ... what an abundance of memories you saw there. The old places. Memories. Would I have gone? Oui. Pourquoi-pas?!! :)
@sarasdadandmom - terry, i'm in trouble. he's given up his paper business so he has time now during the day and it's always like "where do you want to go and take photos?" ack! leave me alone! hahahaha! but he's handy, so i really can't complain. :-) thank you, terry.
what a beautifully composed shot with lovely clouds behind the bricks; all-in-all, a really nice photo with your name right there in the middle and everything. who could ask for more? sounds like you had a wonderful day. had to fav this!
