when it rains it pours! by summerfield

when it rains it pours!

there were thousands and thousands of dragonflies at the parks and at the beaches. walking back home i was hoping to get at least a shot of just one dragonfly. i looked up and i thought i saw one way up so i started zooming it in. i was surprised there were three and then i saw more, and then more, and then....and they were just hanging around there. there was another kind, black ones with transparent wings like this except there's a red pigment near the body. i'd have loved to have taken a closer shot of those but they were too restless, i think they could actually hear my shutter. these green ones just won't move and blended in nicely with the greens. they have a spot near their eyes which looked like another eye. view large if you will.

i guess dragonflies are off my bucket list!

if you are so inclined, my same september post for today is here: http://365project.org/summerfield/365-again/2012-09-10
Congrats on getting these dragonflies off your list! Nice that they stayed still long enough for you to get your photo! Lovely!

Interesting- maybe they were laying eggs? But I thought they did that in the water. Oh well- great shot!

Wow! Awesome find. I've never seen more than one at a time. They must have been having a convention.

That is awesome. The third eye is a bit creepy. Great captures. Jealous..yes. I spent an hour a few weeks back running around my house chasing dragonflies, hoping to capture one...just one. But nothing. Sneaky little...errrr.
