Anti-social networking

Have I mentioned how much I hate mobile phones?..... I don't own one, don't want one.

I see far too many people who's mobile phones are sucking all the life out of them. I fear that before long our children will learn to text before they learn to speak.

"Oh little Johnny texted his first word today"

"Really? what did he text"

"OMFG"

"Oh he is such a clever little boy..... LOL."
Sad but probably true. Watched a young couple one night in a restaurant on their phones. I wondered if they weren't texting each other.

Haha - so true! I don't t use my phone when out socialising but must admit I get on my iPad at home and before you know it two hours has passed! Keep saying going to limit myself, but no willpower 😗

What an earth did folk do before they had phones?? Coming back from London on the tube we were the only people with out a phone in our hand!! A great image of our sad times.

Bread and circuses...history never fails to repeat itself. Distract the populace enough and

Darn it! The irony is that I am on my cellphone while writing this and my finger hit post comment before finishing my thought! Well, anyway, you can just figure out where I was going with this thought...

What I hate more than what's going on here, is when families are out and the adults are socialising, but the kids are on devices.

I agree on most of it: changes and progress are not always for the good... But they happen, I think you got to know your enemy rather than refuse it, if you want to have a chance to win (or to survive...)

It's how and what you use them for and when obviously. I always play devil's advocate here - they're more than phones. Would you feel the same if they had their heads down poring over travel agent's brochures and city break guide books working out their holiday plans? Or an A-Z to work out where they're going? Which is what they may be using their phones for? (I know, i know, they're probably checking their likes on Facebook ... lol 😉)

@boxplayer I know.... and I'm probably just as bad with cameras. Someone once complained to me that they were fed up with having conversations with my camera lens. :)

@domenicododaro I'm just waiting for Canon to build a smartphone into one of their DSLRs...... then I'll be hooked. ;)

agree wholeheartedly, i dont have one either... but my son is getting a new one and offered me his old one... what to do? i think the camera on it is crap anyways

lol. Fab narrative above and I totally hear you. It is a major concern. I remember going to stay at my brother's in Cornwall. About seven cousins were in one room and hadn't seen each other in a while. No one was talking. All on their gadgets. A crying shame :)

I agree

Yes it's definitely a sad sight!

Fabulous shot and narrative. I admit to having a mobile phone, but it doesn't surface at social events and is switched to silent. I wouldn't be without it though as it is so handy when you live in Australia. an easy place to get lost when you are travelling. Google comes in very handy when on the road. Needed to find an ANZ Bank when in Albury recently. google ANZ get the address put address into Satnav and find the bank in five minutes instead of driving round for hours. Handy.

@swillinbillyflynn - oh yes that's the other thing - the cameras just get better and better on the phones. I still wouldn't be without a proper camera though.

That's one of the things that concerns me actually about the rise of the super (let alone smart) phone - that they will be the death of a lot of things that we now take for granted. Just to name a few things - my phone is now my A-Z, my road atlas for driving, my compass, my clock, my torch, my music player, my tuner (for tuning stringed instruments) ... We might wake up one day when we've all been cyberhacked or whatever and find that nobody knows how to build a compass anymore and all the paper maps are long gone ....
