A Surprisingly Interesting Car Park

Multi story car parks in Cornwall are usually such hideous carbuncles that they invariably blight an otherwise pleasant shopping centre. I'm not sure why this is the case. Maybe Architects just hate doing them and give the job to some 16 year old work experience student.

The one in St. Austell is a prime example. Despite being built only a couple of years ago, it is not only butt ugly, but the interior has obviously been designed by someone who doesn't actually drive. Every single thing that could possibly go wrong with a car park design has been incorporated in this catastrophic failure. We have been building these things for nearly 60 years now......so you would have thought they should have worked out a good, or at the very least functional, layout for them by now.

But no...... the spaces are too small, the rows are too close together, 2 out of every 3 spaces has a large concrete pillar in one of its corners, rendering it unusable by anything other than a tiny smart car. The internal layout is just completely random and designed to ensure that people crash into each other. I could go on...... and on...... and on.........

Sorry...... rant over........ :)

However this one in Plymouth is actually quite nice and really rather eye catching I thought. It doesn't take a lot to transform a concrete carbuncle into a thing of beauty..... just a bit of imagination really.
I agree with your rant totally Billy - but nice shot of this slightly prettier carbuncle!

Makes for a neat pattern shot...In the USA, parking lots are the same...no style, no functionality :).
