Big Boat, Little Boat, Teeny-Tiny Boat

St. James Harbor on Beaver Island had a rather unique visitor in this ship, the Denis Sullivan. It's not like tall ships come through that often. Exciting to get a shot with all the clouds around (original is in extras album - http://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2015-07-20 ) and I probably should have left it at that, but then tonight...started playing around with processing, and decided I quite liked this one. The boat, however, is majestic enough that it really didn't need this.
To see the teeny kayak, you'll probably need to view large and on black.
Finally caught up with posting and almost with commenting. What a week!
I like the drama of this one the best - great processing!

Fav for the processing. You did such a great job here even though, like you said, the ship and scene are beautiful enough and don't require any processing.

This is truly fabulous! Aren't these ships amazingly beautiful?! We had a visitor also a few days ago, and I only wished I'd been able to go aboard for more pictures...some days there just isn't time enough! And BTW, your processing is *wonderfully* dramatic!

@Weezilou I just posted on your site and realized I should have put it here...this is the Denis Sullivan, so thanks for encouraging me to find out the name of the ship.
July 23rd, 2015
Love the capture. A fav. The boat and and background have a great classical look.
July 23rd, 2015
Thanks for sending me the information, and actually, thanks for sending me the note as we're just coming in tonight and I might not have checked 365. I'm not familiar with that name, but will look it up...so many beautiful ships, both old and recreations. Maybe I just notice them more, spending time here, but they're quite popular!

I heard local scuttlebutt this evening about how L'Hermione was supposed to sail to Halifax but there was some finagling to bring her to Lunenburg! Our good luck!
July 23rd, 2015
This processing has turned the original shot into something quite mysterious and a tad spooky. Definite fav.
July 23rd, 2015
Taffy I keep coming back to this photo because I love how you processed the clouds. Could you tell me what steps you took in LR to obtain this wonderful dreamy look?
July 23rd, 2015
@radiogirl I used a plug-in that is part of Nik Suite, called Color Efex, and within that, the solarization filter.
July 23rd, 2015
Looks piratey with the edit!
July 23rd, 2015

July 25th, 2015
This is really, really, REALLY amazing processing!! You have outdone yourself, yet again!! FAV, for sure....and, yes, I looked at the original, which was a very nice photo in itself, but this processing has added that extra dimension, all that drama and a story to this photo! Great job!!
July 27th, 2015

July 28th, 2015
fantastic photo and processing
July 28th, 2015
wow-amazing shot! i just love all the drama-the processing is awesome
July 29th, 2015
@panthora Thanks Osia -- I think that sometimes, even a nice scene doesn't quite 'cut it' in terms of final version. This was one of those times.
July 29th, 2015
Great shot.
The edited version is much more interesting to look at...the dark clouds like more like they are rolling with the edit than the original. Great stuff.
Apologies for not checking in so much. My work life has taken over......as always during the summer.
July 30th, 2015
Just loving the processing…!
