This is the entrance, made of marble to the Newberry Library. It's a beautiful building and great place for a photo meetup and tour on a cold winter day.
Three shots bracketed, combined in Photomatix, then tweaked in LR5. Cannot get it to line up correctly and finally gave up. When the walls are vertical, the stairs are off. When the stairs are right, the whole thing looks tilted. AGH! I liked the marble pattern.
I'm trying to fill in the holes in my b&w calendar for this month. Still swamped at work and only slowly getting to catch up on viewing...no need to comment!
I love the symmetry of this shot and the pattern in marble is beautiful.
I hope this is inside and doesn't get wet because when we were in Greece the pavements are made of marble and they are deadly when it rains.
@ericdibosco Some of it was lighting, and some was trying to get the stairs in and level them (which I didn't end up doing anyway). I wanted the base of the railing and to get that it meant cutting the top close. If I gave the top some room, the cut off railing looked odd. All trade-offs, as you know well!
@onewing Yes, Babs, it's the interior entrance after a very dramatic set of exterior arches over the main entrance. I may post that another day. If it were wet, it would be treacherous!
Beautiful light and patterns, for that a great shot, shame you can't make it line up, the first thing I thought before I read the description was: hmm this is unlike Taffy that the stairs aren't straight. Good excuse to go back - fav anyway
