My Get Pushed partner for this week Joan @joansmor challenged me to do something in the style of another 365er, Rachel @rachelwithey . Rachel, like most of us, photographs in many different styles, but a strong characteristic of her work is that it is often suggestive - even abstract, rather than being illustrative and representative: Rachel often shoots with a Lensbaby and often uses sepia toning. Joan and I agreed that I would produce a photo with these characteristics, rather than attempting to produce a chinese copy of Rachel's work.
Whilst I have the same Lensbaby as Rachel, as I'm using her work as inspiration rather than trying to reproduce it, I've chosen to produce a Lensbaby effect in processing.
I really like your processing in this. Fav. I know you didn't use it for this shot, but which lensbaby do you own? Do you like it? I am thinking of buying one but don't know which to get.
Oh, I hope Rachael loves it as much as I do. And am pleased at others response to this challenge. Loved too that people noticed that it was different then your usual images. So glad I issued this push.
@shepherdmanswife Hi Chantal - I have the same one as Rachel Withey - the Composer Pro Double Glass Optic. For me it was the ideal compromise between getting enough of the LB effect without being too extreme. It's great fun to use but takes a bit of getting used to.
@tosee Done in post Tom to see if I could produce a fair imitation of the LB effect. If you haven't already seen it, you might like this shot http://365project.org/vignouse/doubletakes/2014-06-03 which reproduces the LB effect by shooting through the bottom of a tumbler!
It almost moves when you look at it.....like one of those optical illusions. I like the grey colouring - creates such a different feel than black and white would.
