Busker and Friend by vignouse

Busker and Friend

This gentleman was installed on the bridge at the old port of St. Goustan, Auray, Brittany this afternoon and entertaining the passers by. When I asked if I could take his photograph, he stepped aside so that his dog could be in the picture too... which was exactly what I wanted.
such an amazing capture. Really made me feel I don't know what emotion but just a very powerful image in general

This need to be seen on black. It is one of those story-telling picture that demand to be watched and watched again.

@vignouse What processing did you do on this ---- I really like how it came out.
May 19th, 2016
@LaLa If I had got it right in camera, I woudn't have processed at all! Ideally, I would have shot this at f/2 (wide open) so as to isolate the subject but on the X100T - because it has a leaf shutter and not a focal plane shutter - the maximum shutter speed at f/2 is 1/1000 sec and I would have needed at least 1/8000 sec to have not overexposed the image. I could have reduced the ISO to 200 and dialed in the internal 3 stop ND filter so as to have used f/2, but to do that, I would have had to dive into the internal menus which would have left my subject waiting. I wanted to seize the moment before his goodwill ran out, so I elected to shoot with the currently dialed in settings and sort it out later in post-production.

At f/11 with a 35mm (equivalent) lens the image was sharp from the foreground through to the background so I applied a 10 pixel Gaussian blur in PS, reduced the opacity to 70% and then applied a layer mask so that I could brush out the filter effect on the busker and the foreground. As I was processing anyway, I had previously sharpened the mid-range micro-contrasts and upped the clarity some in LR. The framing is as shot. The final result is a little artificial probably, but not unpleasant I think.

Hope this helps?

Interesting shot, great processing and interesting to read your reply to LaLa....

@jack4john Thanks John - I should have added that I could have selected the electronic shutter which goes up to 1/32000 sec... but again, I would have had to have gone into the menus to select it and run the risk of distortion if either the busker or his dog had moved.
