Your response to my main 365 album posting today of the laser show projected onto the façade of Paimpont Abbey was so amazing that I thought you might like to learn a bit more about how it is done.
First, the façade is laser mapped to produce a template which is used to construct all the animation frames. When the laser projector is being set up, the image is synced to key reference points on the building. All the window and door openings have white curtains hung behind them which act as screens for the animation.
What I find the most amazing though is illustrated in this shot. All the windows in the image are actual windows in the Abbey but all the frame details are individually illuminated by a high speed laser scan. You can see that two windows at first-floor level and two more on the ground-floor have a different image projected on to them. This image was built-up piece-by-piece over about 30 seconds and the overall result is simply stunning:
I hope you enjoy this little peep behind the scenes... please view on black for the most impact.
that was truly fascinating. how often we enjoy something and go ooh and aah but don't give any real thought to just what went on to create it. your behind the scenes didn't detract from the image one bit either, it enhanced the enjoyment of it!
