So many fantastic photos, so much variety, sooo hard to choose…
Thank you to everyone who made this such a difficult job. Your responses to the challenge were just great. However, as I have no experience at choosing only five from such a large number I have had to resort to some reference points.
So these are the ideas I used to choose the finalists:
• The object of the image had to be between the light source and the camera.
• The image was not to be a complete silhouette – details of the object should be able to be seen.
• The backlighting should have been used to produce effects such as colour highlights, glowing edges/hair etc, highlights in smoke/steam, highlighting of shapes or forms. It could also have been used to illustrate the difference between a backlit section and a non-backlit section.
• The backlighting could be provided by using external lighting, internal lighting or controlled lighting. However, as the different situations had to deal with different problems I decided to choose images from each lighting source.
And – I’m sorry but I still ended up with seven (and could have easily chosen 27!)
