Caroline overheard us talking in the community garden at RHS Wisley and called over to us the answer to a question we'd asked ourselves.
The space is used for the RHS' students and apprentices, members of the public can apply for a small plot.
Caroline applied in January and started her plot in March. The fee she paid rents her space, she was given a variety of seeds to plant in her her space, the use of a greenhouse and cold feames, all her tools and a number of talks to attend over the year.
She manages to travel from Esher twice a week to tend her little allotment as she still works full time as a supply chain manager.
Such an interesting lady to talk with, so enthusiastic about her plants and the support she's getting. Told her I'd look in on her plot my next visit.
We just don't have 'plots' like this in NZ - everyone seems to have some sort of land to do something with, unless you live in an apartment and that is a life choice.
Nice candid portrait and interesting description of the RHS program. Providing seeds and tools etc. seems like a good way to ensure a higher success rate.
Thank you all!! I don't chat to every stranger I see or photograph every one I chat with, honest! but it is getting easier to get them to pose.
