We leave tomorrow morning for Hawaii, so I had to see what the status was in the nest before then. Mama Anna was none too pleased, but this baby must have heard her and was waiting to be fed! (That's the top of Ken's head just below, so you see it's only about 6.5' off the ground). In two weeks they'll be popping out of the nest!
As I am writing this, Anna flew a hand's distance from the window to my left and looked in at me! I do believe she wanted to assure herself that I'd left *her territory*!
So glad the babies have arrived. How long will you be gone? Will they still be there when you get back? Have a wonderful time and don't worry about your babies. Looks like they are in good hands, I mean wings.
Well, congratulations!! We had a hummingbird nest in our courtyard last year and watched the little ones grow. Missing that this year. Have a great trip.
@777margo@aglennc I couldn't see them until I stood on a ladder and looked down at them. By the time we return, the mother will be sitting on the side of the nest and feeding them...a better opportunity for seeing them without making her crazy with our presence! (Also, it's early in the year for a nest; we typically see her in May. There's a possibility that there might be more again later...)
@hbdaly Ahahaha! You're my *second* "Lunenburg friend" who calls me "Auntie Lou-ease"... (that's the way she says it and spells it!) I just smile...you're both so cute :) Aloha...I wish I could take you along in my suitcase...

Congratulations and welcome to the foster hummingbird caretakers club! It's amazing how quickly they grow! I hope we'll see them maturing when you return.
