As we mark our last Wednesday before returning home, we shopped in the morning for ingredients to make gifts for friends. I spent the last 12 hours making meringues, mulling spices, candied pecans and "pepitos" (roasted pumpkin-seed kernels) and rosemary-coated bar nuts. I filled gift bags and made an evergreen centerpiece with holly , pinecones and a candle.
Regarding the latter, there was a day when listening to a Martha Stewart show, she said, "just go to the roadsides and gather natural flowers and greenery..." Ha! Obviously she's never been to LA! Ahhh, but here I did cut all my own greens, and when Ken stopped for me to take a photo of a rustic home with a lovely wreath, I discovered the ground littered with pine cones! My arrangement should still look fresh at least two weeks after we're back home, but the family of friends is moving in two days after we vacate. I'm delighted to leave it decorated for them!
Which brings me to my picture... When I set the arrangement in the living room, I noticed we were socked in with fog. I needed a break, so Ken helped me carry the tripod and we went out to photograph the trees in the park across the street.
A couple passing by asked to see my photo and the lady said, "That needs to be your Christmas picture"! I told her I'd already ordered my cards, so she said I should use it next year...and she added, "I'd like to be on your Christmas card list"!
Perhaps I should now post the image I've chosen for my cards... I don't need to tell you I'm MIA...I don't even sit at the computer now except to look at incoming mail. Thank you for waiting for me to be an active member again...I think I've overworked that sentence far too many times... I appreciate the comments and your patience with me as well!
That is gorgeous. Love the softness. We have a lit up gazebo here in our Lunenburg too (also socked in fog tonight) but yours is a lot bigger and lovelier... 365 is always here waiting. That's what I love about this place. You can come and go and people are always happy to see you when you get back. :)
oh, my word! the gazebo looks gorgeous with all those lights! i must ask bill for my shots at that gazebo. the fog just made it more festive! aces, my friend!
So beautiful Louise! Love the softness the fog creates! I love to read about your busy life - don't worry we are always here waiting for the next exciting instalment! Fav for your lovely image - another potential Christmas card!
How poignant to be saying, "The last Wednesday," "The last Thursday," and all the other "lasts" but you'll be back and you will have equally wonderful things waiting for you at home. You bring the "wonderful" with you, where ever you go!
@allie912 'tis true Allie... Thanks for the lovely compliment... there is, however, and indefinable element up here that we don't find anywhere else. If I have anything to do with it, it's in bringing people together and let them light up the room! We just had "our last" dinner with neighbors. Spur-of-the moment, I ran into, and invited another friend today, and the conversations were animated, lively and so very interesting! The guys were the two we went to Europe with a few years ago. Jan, was a teacher in the Yukon for 30 years. Her life has been 180 degrees different from ours, and what fantastic stories she shared! We were still chatting as we said good-night at 12:30! ...indefinable something... I'm cancelling the morning activities to do some packing and finish gift wrapping. We're going to another concert tomorrow night & that one could possibly run late afterward as well... Pictures? I've got pictures! Time? Running short on that! I hope your holiday is ramping up and will be an especially good one with baby Jack!
Well I`ll make it brief. A beautiful capture of those lovely Christmas lights.
Take care, take it easy and do n`t rush.
The Dutch saying : ``neem niet teveel hooi op je vork `` = +/- Do n`t take to much hay on the fork , is still a good one.
@pyrrhula
:) Good advice, Ferry! I've been baking and wrapping presents all day. Stopped to go out & photograph a beautiful sunset! We're leaving in 5 minutes to go hear our last musical venue...Chamber music with piano accompaniment. I plan to relax and enjoy it... We're heard all the people before and they're exceptional! I'll look at photos soon... I'm busy stuffing to fork full of hay! ;) xo
This is beautiful, but I already picked your picture for your Christmas cards for next year!! ;-)) So, when do you get to relax?! If I didn't already know, I would say that you sound like a Leo! ;-)))
@panthora haha! The Leo's of the Plains sleep the day away. Those of us who were born under their sign, you're correct, have no time for that! The church IS our Christmas card, but someone suggested I use this next year. However, *next year* with have all sorts of new choices in store!
