Our flights took us from Halifax to Philly, and here, on to Dallas. We left just as the sun began to set, and we had this orange sky for the next two hours! Ken, my go-to math person, says that at that latitude, he estimates the earth's circumference must be about 20,000 miles, it rotates at about 800 mph. and we're flying at 500 mph. The net effect is that we only lose about 300 mph of earth rotation and thus we can see the sunset for such a long time! Humph...I had NO idea!
oh, you just made me cry with this photo. this was the same kind of sunset that i missed on that trip to calgary in october. ah, missed opportunities, but good for you for capturing this. love it!
Nicely caught, Louise. Interesting ground lights and beautiul sunset. I like flying during sunrise and/or sunset. And thanks, Ken. for the explanation. Hey, we're surprised you're coming home before Christmas! You usually don't, do you?!!!
Oh this,is so beautiful Louise! Interesting maths-how wonderful to see it for so long! Are you pleased to be home? You must be torn as you love Lunenburg so much and gave such great friends there! Fav for this fab capture!
Now if that could somehow translate into losing a few pounds.........
So, you are back in SoCal and your forever home. I am sure that the resettling in takes a bit of time. I know it took me days and days to settle after 4 months in the camper. I look forward to photos from your other life!
Little rivers of fire, down there in the darkness, with the orange glow on the horizon. Glad your travels were safe, sorry you had to depart your treasured Lunenburg for SoCal... but things could be worse. ;) The math lesson was fun, too.
You lost me at "math person"!! lol....this a wonderful photo from a plane! Welcome to California....I bet it will feel weird to land in the land of sunshine!
@panthora Funny that you said that as we were on approach to OC and were diverted to Ontario because of dense fog! *Not so sunny* and we'd been up for 23 hours! Loving it now, though! Had the back door open all day!
Welcome back Louise! Thank you for taking me on that virtual vacation with you. I miss it too and I've never been there but I feel like I have. Looking forward to seeing you and Osia and the gang maybe in January. Hugs to you.
