Hired Hands! by Weezilou

Hired Hands!

As much as I love walking through the garden to see what is blooming and producing well, I enjoy the plentiful lizards that have the run of the yard! This is one of the darker varieties we have and up close, those scales are a glorious array of turquoise and pale pinks! Our variety are Western Fence Lizards and can be kept as pets (legally speaking) but I'm leaving them to do what they do best! They watch us when we're on their turf; I rustle the leaves & debris at the base of the wall and they'll hop down to grab any insects that have been disturbed!

This one must have met Tigger who, in the past has brought them to me as gifts! He never gave me an injured one, and I released them back to the yard. This one gave up his tail, but it will grow back. It's a nice trick for this little get-away artist!
What a cute little guy!

Wonderful narrative. I’m glad his tail will grow back. I count on my lizards to help with pest control!

@mozette @koalagardens @365projectorgchristine @edorreandresen @fbailey @wakelys @boxplayer @johnfalconer @louannwarren @seattlite @gardencat Thank you all for you often-insightful and thoughtful comments! As @louannwarren said, they're extremely helpful with pest control! And we know that while we're looking at them, they look right back at us! @fbailey The babies are as long as a third of my little finger! They grow big out in the garden from the tip of my middle finger down past my wrist. In the information I found about them, they are (scientifically?) measured from their noses to where the tail begins as tails have a way of coming and going! @seattlite You learn something new everyday! @gardencat In Hawaii the geckos are quite revered in sculpture and jewelry. While perhaps less so, I have a sterling brooch in the shape of a lizard; their undulating form is pleasing to the eye! @boxplayer How about I send you a box of lizards in trade for one of your adorable garden foxes! (They wouldn't try to eat the lizards, would they?!) @johnfalconer @edorreandresen I do love to write, and think of my narratives as journal notes. While I'd love to write at greater length, that's another of those things that may not happen as I have so many choices to occupy me already! To all of you, I DO love being back and sharing with you and your good company!

@fbailey While looking at all my "peaceable kingdom" from our yard, I found this one to give you a clear idea! I know I have more of them in our hands under that tag. https://365project.org/Weezilou/365/2017-04-12
