The annual swarm has happened again; we saw it as it began. A few bees didn't like our presence in the garden, and we certainly wanted to respect their space! In the cinder-block wall that surrounds part of our yard, bees have had a hive for years in one of the posts. There's no way to extract them without killing them, and THAT is not going to happen on my watch...for ALL the obvious reasons!
Every year in the spring this occurs in one of our citrus trees, and by the time they leave, they often leave behind a lovely, pristine bit of natural honeycomb! It's fascinating to see, and I thought you might be interested as well!
@corinnec Thanks! I was looking at this and wondering, "Who goes first?" "How many bees deep are they?" "I know they have the queen with them, but where is she?" I know they can decide to leave as quickly as they arrive, but "Where do they go?!"
Wow, louise, that is amazing! I can stand around bees like you but I do respect them and keep my distance and I try to be very nice to them. I too love them.
@stownsend I adore the way you worded that! If they're happily collecting pollen, I can putter around them and love being in their company. We ALL should be very nice to them for the future of the planet! Lovely to have you drop in for a visit!
@rensala@haskar Someday I might find I was completely wrong, but they seem to be so focused on gathering together, no strays are on duty! In the past I've gotten some tight closeups, but this year, we drove to the other side of our wall for a better view and I stayed in the car to photograph!
