...ok...clearly I'm at a loss for a title, but I remember so clearly the many lines from the 1962 movie, "David & Lisa"...this was a favorite. David responds to Lisa, "I see a Pearl. I see a Pearl of a Girl"... It was one of those cooly-odd movie house pictures my dates and I loved back in the day.
All this has nothing to do with this raccoon...not Marshmallow, but one of two very large ones that came to the yard the first night we were home. So this isn't even taken today, but it'll be "Animal du Jour Deux" which is probably what I should have used for the title. And it was taken exactly one month ago...
Time for some much needed sleep. It was a delightfully busy day in the company of many old friends!
I'm asking you all to have a look at Elizabeth's photo today http://365project.org/redy4et/365/2016-01-10 One has to get away from the congestion around here to get a view like this! I was considering finding a tall building and going up for a better vantage point, but Elizabeth has done it better!
Elizabeth's picture looks like a movie set. Spectacular. California is certainly a state of contradictions. Your raccoon is an inquisitive fellow. Just watch out for rabies. (aren't I the killjoy?)
@tj22 Thanks TJ, he is! You've got the tiny penguins and we've got raccoons...There are those who might say you've got the better deal, but I love these little guys!
@parisouailleurs Every since Frosty seems to have left, I'm no longer the squirrel lady... I don't mind at all being associated with these cute little buggers! You and I know there'll ALWAYS be an animal of some sort!
@allie912 No killjoy...always ere on the side of caution! I'm not going to pick him up... ...and being the librarian...don't rabies have to come from something...bats, I thought. We never hear of bats out here, and even in Nova Scotia, people have noted that the bats died off, having contacted something that killed THEM! I really would be interested in knowing if I'm in need of an education!
@bluespirit ha! Perhaps I already am! I know people harbour concerns, but I've asked our resident librarian for further edification. As noted, we have never seen a bat out here and wonder if rabies can be spread in other ways.
@aglennc ...yes...the yard! Greg, who stayed here when we were away, said the big parents were b ringing two babies for awhile. Now I see the parents in the late evening, and the little guy we call"Marshmallow" comes about 8:30. Our neighbor has a dog, but I never hear Molly barking...
WE have one in our back yard. We are trying to trap it to relocate it. We worry about our dog Charlie confronting him when he goes out at night...and he steals our fish from the pond. Would love the get a photo of him, but don't think that will happen. This is so cute, it makes me want to let him stay...but just won't work out.
@eyesmile Oh Gena, cute as they are, they're really just bad little children, and if your yard can't agreeably handle them, relocation is for the best! Our neighbor used to raise koi, but he gave that up because the raccoons have been in the neighborhood for many years! It probably doesn't help that I continue to feed them...but they seem to not bother the cats and visa versa!
