"...the picture that Louise did not have a chance to take..."
Our Lunenburg friend, John McGee, who hosted the summer kitchen parties went by our house to check on it today. We'd heard about the blizzard, but can hardly believe what we see in the photos he sent! He wrote:
"We have had snow like you have not seen! Second only to White Juan.
Speculations are up to 70 cm. (divide by 2.54 = inches)
Just got back. I thought I'd take a few pics that Louise did not have a chance to take.
House is good. 3 foot drifts in back...
This house was built in 1888 and has weathered snow before, but it's been put to the test (again!)
John's awesome for sharing this with us! Thanks, m'friend!
Wow Louise that is some snowfall! Having stood there I know there are steps up to that door and then it's half way up the door itself! Another wow! Just thinking about the animals - hope the cats are all tucked up somewhere warm!
Wow! That's a lot of snow! My brother-in-law just recently sent us photos of our Canadian cottage under a similar blanket of snow. Isn't it amazing to see how different these places look in the winter? :-)
@gaylewood We're totally blown away! And to think they're expecting another round in a day or two!! (so meanwhile I'm back in California picking tangerines ;- )
@cruiser Most people are good to the animals up there... I don't doubt they're being seen to! Thanks for thinking of them!
@louannwarren The first couple to invite us to come up there (friends of friends at the time) told us that, situated along the Gulf Stream, the winters were *generally* pretty mild. It wasn't long before we started receiving the winter pictures and took to calling our new friends, "Those Lyin' Canadians!" For the last few years, the "worst of winter" seems to be appearing bi-annually. I'm content to superimpose a Christmas tree over this image and send it to my friends next year (along with a box of California citrus fruit from the yard!) Thanks, Lou Ann!
@joansmor I read a news story last night and, though I saw some pretty deep snow in my daughter's Massachusetts photos, they said it was Maine (mentioning Portland) and NH that really got hammered! Of course that's all line of sight across to Lunenburg!
@teiko ...clearly you weren't ready to give up seasonal changes and snow entirely! Given the blizzard the east coast experienced, it probably DOES feel milder where you live! And you have some amazing mountains to look out upon...not a bad trade-off at all!!!
Oh my! This is one massive blizzard to get this much snow on your porch. Aren't you feeling warmer here in soCA? What about your Nova Scotia kitty?Where is he/she? Someone taking care of him/her? (I always worry about the animals!)
@kwiksilver@gilbertwood@777margo@golftragic Good for a laugh for all of you south of the equator, isn't it?! My laugh is that some thoughtful algorithm put it on the popular page! I must write John and let him know he did well!
@Weezilou Oh mama mia, that's a "light dusting" there then!!!! Love it! Would love to see proper snow like that here in England but it's highly unlikely. I see snowfall like that in Austria when we drive down there but I couldn't get there this Winter. Love this picture!
