Gold-tipped Leafcutter Bee by annied

Gold-tipped Leafcutter Bee

This week I'll be posting the smaller visitors in the garden around this time of year (which is January in this album lol).

At first I thought it was possibly a Blue-Banded Bee when I was trying to snag a photo - I will say I find trying to photograph bees exhausting...I'm probably going about it all wrong....
When I uploaded I realised it wasn't, so of course went on one of my google searches....I was chuffed when I finally (pretty confidently) identified it as a Gold-tipped Leafcutter Bee.

Leafcutting bees are important pollinators of many wildflowers. They also pollinate fruits and vegetables. Leafcutting bees use the leaves of almost any broadleaf deciduous plant to construct their nests.

Our Leafcutter Bees are in genus Megachile and range in size from about 6 to 15 mm. They belong to the family Megachilidae and are found all over Australia.
Beautiful, so lovely to see the bee markings - never seen one like this
