King of England for just two turbulent years! He was the last Plantagenet king, before Henry VII took his crown at the Battle of Bosworth. Richard's remains were discovered under a car park in the city of Leicester a few years ago, in what had once been Grey Friars Monastery. After much debate about whether he should be returned to his native York, he was eventually interred in Leicester Cathedral ( it not being far from Bosworth Field).
The houses of York & Lancaster were united with the marriage of Henry VII & Elizabeth of York - later the parents of one Henry VIII.
This statue stood in town hall square in Leicester for many years, but was moved to just outside the cathedral when he was buried there.
At one time in my youth I was very intrigued by Richard III and I still trrasure a novel about him "The Nut Brown Maid" . I was in contact with the Richard III Foundation at one point. I remember seein on tv a programme about the find and how experts proved his identity. Beautiful shot and thanks for sharing.
