This is quite a picturesque view these days, lots of development in the last 20rs. First settlements in Lincoln grew around this area. The Romans used this natural lake ( part of the river Witham) as a port. As recently as the 1960s it was a busy wharf with lots warehouses & boats unloading their catch. Today there are wide walkways, & restaurants on this side & part of the university on the other. The university has grown massively over the last ten years or so, some say it’s taken over this area, but I think those comments are common in other university city & towns too.
