Pond in Homestead Park by fishers

Pond in Homestead Park

An afternoon walk on Thursday took me to one of my favourite places in the Clifton area of York, and a location that has featured many times in our 365 project.

Thursday was a dull overcast day, but at least it didn't rain. Many spring flowers are beginning to make their appearance, and there were more signs of the transformation of the park that has been taking place over the last few years.

I don't think I have taken a shot of this viewpoint before, looking south-east over the south-west end of the pond. The stumps of trees that have been cut down can be seen, making this a much more open view than in the past.

Some of the buildings in the distance provide facilities for park users, while other buildings are part of the offices of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.

The park occupies what was once part of the garden of Homestead House, home of Benjamin Seebohm Rowntree, son of Joseph Rowntree and one of the Rowntree dynasty of chocolate and confectionary makers.

The distant offices were once home of Benjamin Seebohm Rowntree, and soon after he moved into the house in 1904 he opened the land behind his house to children attending York Elementary Schools for outdoor activities. Today residents of all ages enjoy this beautiful park.

This is the 127th shot taken in Homestead Park that we have posted, either as part of our family project, or as part of my earlier solo project.

Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.

We are very fortunate to have some nice open spaces in our area, and it is really nice to visit the Homestead Park this time of year when many signs of spring can be seen. It is nicer to be there on a brighter day, but a pleasant walk even on a dull day like the day I took this shot.

@busylady

I cheated a bit keeping count - I did a search on 365 for 'Homestead Park' and it came up with 126 hits, all of which were from either our family project or my earlier solo project, and this new post was number 127.
