My lovely strong special washing line from NZ has collapsed, why do washing lines always do that when they have washing on them?
The metal at the bottom has corroded with standing in the pipe which holds it up.
Harry has a chap who is coming to measure & weld it back together.
Three good things:
1. Lunch out with Alex's other grandparents.
2. Alex has new Wellington boots to take back for work.
3. I have emptied the Roses Chocolate tin, no more sweets for me!!
Oh Pat - drat and double drat when something like this happens -- it really makes you mad doesn't it !-- all that clean washing having to be done all over and pegged out again !
A slight nuisance I agree....I have to bend low to hang out the washing. Harry & I need to lift it back out of the stand & one hold it while the other winds the hand,e so that it's as high as it will go....I have to bend low at the moment....risk having my head banged when the wind swirls it round!
Thank you all for taking the time to comment!
Buggar!
I'm sure it's fixable - your backyard won't be the same without it. In fact there is an old argument between Australia and NZ over who invented this clothesline. The Ausies call theirs the Hill's Hoist after the first manufacturer of the line in their country (1945). I still use a long line and wooden prop.
@snaphappi this is a Hills Hoist but it must have been stollen by NZ cause that's where it came from! We have two, one is in the rented bit next door, that one seems to be going strong still. I said that word too when I looked out of the window!
@maggiemae we have had it for about ten years now so has lasted well. Some friends from NZ were staying here with us & very kindly arranged for it to be sent over. We have two of them, one next door. It just corroded at the bottom where it was standing in water ....will mend ok so all is not lost!
Like Al, I smiled that the photo was snapped before the washing rescued. I'm notorious in my family for grabbing the camera instead of rescuing something/one :-)
@onewing ours does too Babs ...well just a small bit but it's the water that has run down between the actual post & the pipe it was slotted into.....perhas it would be better just straight into the concrete?

No didn't have to wash it again, was pretty dry when we brought it in so no bother thank goodness! I was glad they weren't sheets on there!
Glad it didn't need washing again! :)
