Collapse! by happypat

Collapse!

My lovely strong special washing line from NZ has collapsed, why do washing lines always do that when they have washing on them?

The metal at the bottom has corroded with standing in the pipe which holds it up.
Harry has a chap who is coming to measure & weld it back together.

Three good things:
1. Lunch out with Alex's other grandparents.
2. Alex has new Wellington boots to take back for work.
3. I have emptied the Roses Chocolate tin, no more sweets for me!!
I feel your frustration, Pat!! It makes a good shot!

Oh Pat - drat and double drat when something like this happens -- it really makes you mad doesn't it !-- all that clean washing having to be done all over and pegged out again !

What a shame Pat at least it never Rained after putting the washing out to dry . Happy New Year Pat Gerry x.

Oh no! I remember it well. The view is just beautiful so all is not lost!

Oh dear what a nuisance!

@quietpurplehaze @julzmaioro l @beryl @busylady @helly31

A slight nuisance I agree....I have to bend low to hang out the washing. Harry & I need to lift it back out of the stand & one hold it while the other winds the hand,e so that it's as high as it will go....I have to bend low at the moment....risk having my head banged when the wind swirls it round!
Thank you all for taking the time to comment!

OOOOPPPSSS

I dear, just when there was blue sky and probably a nice wind for drying! It doesn't sound a Number One item from NZ - the land of the constant winds!
January 6th, 2015
Oh no! Typical! At least you had drying weather - rain again here.

Buggar!
I'm sure it's fixable - your backyard won't be the same without it. In fact there is an old argument between Australia and NZ over who invented this clothesline. The Ausies call theirs the Hill's Hoist after the first manufacturer of the line in their country (1945). I still use a long line and wooden prop.

Oh dear! I hope you didn't have to wash it all again. I love the landscape behind the washing. Makes a good composition.
January 6th, 2015
@snaphappi this is a Hills Hoist but it must have been stollen by NZ cause that's where it came from! We have two, one is in the rented bit next door, that one seems to be going strong still. I said that word too when I looked out of the window!

@maggiemae we have had it for about ten years now so has lasted well. Some friends from NZ were staying here with us & very kindly arranged for it to be sent over. We have two of them, one next door. It just corroded at the bottom where it was standing in water ....will mend ok so all is not lost!

Oops...!

@denisefuller @judithg @jtookey150

No didn't have to wash it again, was pretty dry when we brought it in so no bother thank goodness! I was glad they weren't sheets on there!

Great photo even if something of a nuisance! And what useful connections Harry has!!
January 6th, 2015
Oh no!! A very untimely collapse...back to the washing machine for that load. :(
January 6th, 2015
what a fantastic open place for a washing line no wonder it has gone over it must really catch the wind there. great shot
January 6th, 2015
I like the fact that you took a photo before rescuing the washing! lol
Glad it didn't need washing again! :)
January 6th, 2015
How frustrating, but all those colors on the ground do make an interesting image. I can so identify with your #3 good thing.
January 6th, 2015
Oh dear. They really aren't supposed to do that
January 6th, 2015
Oops! But makes for a great shot!
January 6th, 2015
Like Al, I smiled that the photo was snapped before the washing rescued. I'm notorious in my family for grabbing the camera instead of rescuing something/one :-)
January 6th, 2015
Oops. Hope you didn't have to wash it all again. Our Hills Hoist stands in a bed of concrete.
January 7th, 2015
I'm sorry but I did laugh😄. Does make for a great shot though.👍
January 7th, 2015
@onewing ours does too Babs ...well just a small bit but it's the water that has run down between the actual post & the pipe it was slotted into.....perhas it would be better just straight into the concrete?
January 7th, 2015
@andreajoy I didn't laugh Andreabut wasn't fazed enough to rush out & gather all in!! Camera first!!
January 7th, 2015
@squaresparrow thank you, answer as above for Andrea, thank you for your comments....very welcome.
January 7th, 2015
What a shame - you have the ability to make the mundane into such an appealing image. Well done and hope you get it fixed quickly!
January 7th, 2015
@dide thank Dianne!

CK
Whoops! Thats no good - moral of the story, avoid washing altogether..... I wish!
January 7th, 2015
@clarek good thinking!! Just buy new, I'm all for that! Thanks for your input!
January 7th, 2015
They want you to buy an upgrade. That would be disappointing
January 8th, 2015

January 10th, 2015
Oh how irritating.
