With thanks

This lovely bouquet of flowers & bottle of wine arrived this afternoon....a present from Alex's dad & mum as a thank you for looking after her!
Don't tell them but we would have paid to have her stay!
You can also see the beautiful candle holder & card that Alex left us yesterday.

Brightened up our cold, rainy, dark day.

Very quiet today here in the house & thinking of Alex a lot as she arrives in Paris...not the best place to choose to be at the moment but I am sure security is very tight.
So sad for that beautiful city.

Three good things:
1. Cathy, Lydia & I have been in & paid the balance of our New York holiday.
2. The fire extinguishers have all been serviced.
3. A funny programme about Derry in Ireland on Radio 4 this morning....I laughed out loud & I am someone who doesn't like jokes much!
What a beautiful bouquet. And Pat, I absolutely love your blue and white collection in the background. :)

@gailmmeek thank you Gail.......I have too much on there I fear sometimes but every piece means something so there they stay......
January 9th, 2015
@happypat And why not! Sentimental above sensible, I say. ;-)
January 9th, 2015
Lovely presents and capture Pat. I expect you miss Alex a great deal. Hope she stays safe in Paris. It is all so sad.
January 9th, 2015
I knew it was you Pat before I even saw your title and comment -- those blue and white pieces on your dresser scream beautiful to me nd I am so pleased they mean so much to you as well Lovely thank you gifts -- something to give you pleasure now that Alex has continued on her journey -- I am sure she will be safe in Paris -- there will be so much security around the city now !

@thistle @beryl
Thank you lovely ladies......your reassurance about Paris is comforting but you can't help but worry....mum in NZ especially!
January 9th, 2015
How lovely! :)
January 9th, 2015
lovely bunch of flowers Pat. It always does seem so quiet in the house when a guest leaves, it means you'll have to talk to Harry now!! ;o)
I've been listening to the Paris stuff unravel on the radio today - absolutely shocking. I'm sure she'll be fine, it seems the entire countries police force is in the vicinity now!
Fab securing a NY trip...I think I'm due my settlement for Iceland in a couple of weeks!
January 9th, 2015
@sparkle thank Juliette....I was amazed at the number of policemen available to be drafted in ....over 80,000! Thank goodness all sorted before night....some sadly not come through. Harry has pretty much decided to take the points....the first ones he has ever got! He only drives locally so hopefully learnt his lesson at his age! Will decide when we fopind out where the awareness course is. Iceland visit.....have you been before or is it @feaust I am confusing you with?
January 9th, 2015
@helly31 thank you Helen.......no flowers in the house so doubly pleased!
January 9th, 2015
@happypat good for Harry - I couldn't afford to take the points without fear of one more offence and loss of licence! I've been to Iceland before but this time is for a photographic holiday. I booked over a year ago so Alison managed to sneak hers in before mine!
January 9th, 2015
@sparkle A friend of mine, who's a professional photographer, has just come back from Iceland - you might like to see his photos. http://www.guyedwardes.com/diary/view/iceland-in-winter

I recognised your dresser immediately - such a gorgeous homely kitchen.
January 9th, 2015
How lovely. I love looking at all your pots on the dresser. Very homely.
January 9th, 2015
@jocasta thanks for this, his stuff is great
January 9th, 2015
Cosy looking scene. In this weather just what you need!
January 9th, 2015
How kind of them and you! Lovely shot!
January 9th, 2015
What a lovely gift - and like lots of others have said, I too. love your dresser and it's contents.
January 9th, 2015
Isn't Interflora wonderful! I'm sure you will send a photo to them so they can see what was sent to you! The flowers always last for ages! I'm the same - might stretch to a smile for some humour but very seldom laugh!
January 9th, 2015
Lovely gifts and pretty terrible timing as I imagine it will be disrupted - poor Paris. I was looking at the footage from Notre Dame last night and thinking of the lovely visits we had this time last year and knowing that @parisouailleurs will be devastated by what's happening in her city.
January 9th, 2015
@maggiemae I just sit there with a straight face maggiemae but must say I do like observational humour by the right person. The flowers are so fresh & with their own water.
January 9th, 2015
@jocasta thank you Jocasta.... ...you are very kind about my dresser!
@jtookey150 You too Jean ....you are very kind!
@fueast time to stay I doors Alison!
@kwind They are always so kind to send stuff & it was a pleasure having her!
@dide Thank you Dianne.....I was just ready for some flowers, it was a bare house after Christmas!
January 9th, 2015
@judithg I have never been to Paris yet.....it always looks charming city so this must be devastating to all. I truly hope that is the end of it but worry that we are only at the start of a very unsettled time in the world!
January 9th, 2015
a lovely composition - Fav
January 9th, 2015
@happypat nowhere's safe Pat - there are people with twisted logic around all over. We really should have a 365 trip to Paris - it's so easy on the Eurostar.
January 9th, 2015
PS I heard that Derry talk for the third time today and it still made me laugh!
January 9th, 2015
I am sure you needed no reward for having Alex but nice to receive any way... you will miss her... very homely looking kitchen...
January 9th, 2015
Like parents, like daughter...thoughtfulness runs in the family. Such beautiful thank you gifts.
I have had your gorgeous Alex on my mind as I've been watching the grim situation in Paris unfold. Thank goodness it has come to a conclusion. I can imagine that your family has spent an anxious two days.
January 9th, 2015
Such an awesome scene and summary. And this image makes me want to reach inside of it... Fav!
January 9th, 2015
@judithg it was great wasn't it......good to,hear humour from a place that sometimes has been low on that commodity in the past!
January 9th, 2015
@judithg just read thisi would be up for that! Paris meet up I mean.
January 9th, 2015
@rosiekind @julzmaioro Thank you both....no no thanks needed but very nice!
January 9th, 2015
@peggysirk I know she will be safe ...extra so in fact with all the security but it's unsettling specially for dad & mum so far away. This always the way when family start moving out from home.....never stops either even when they get older! You will be the same when Harper & Will grow up.
January 9th, 2015
What a lovely gift, I love the lighting and composition
January 9th, 2015
@sbolden thank you Scott younare so generous! Thanks for the fave!
January 9th, 2015
@judithg could I come too?
January 9th, 2015
This is a beautiful, warm, homey scene. So glad your trip is paid for--you will be more carefree that way.
January 9th, 2015

January 9th, 2015
@ceilidh thanks Margaret I just wanted to show Lesley what they look like......this 365 is so handy!
January 9th, 2015
Beautiful photo of beautiful treasures. Isn't it lovely when you are surrounded by appreciative people. Makes day to day things quite special. Thinking of Alex and hope she sees the best of things even in thus sad time for Paris. It's a desperate situation ...prayers for peace so needed.
keep cosy!
January 9th, 2015
@denisefuller Bien sur!!
January 9th, 2015

January 10th, 2015
What a wonderful gift. Love the blue and white pottery too.
I am sure Alex will be safe in Paris. What is the world coming too, so soon after the Sydney siege too.
January 10th, 2015
How to receive all those lovely gifts and such a beautiful place for them to sit.
January 10th, 2015
Yes I am sure security has been upgraded for sure
January 10th, 2015
Wonderful gesture from Alex's parents, but I would say that you deserve it. Lovely capture of it and the lovely surrounding.
January 10th, 2015
This looks very cosy.
January 10th, 2015
Oh you've got our lovely Lush lampshade! http://365project.org/boxplayer/365too/2013-11-11

Paris 365 meet definitely! Let's do it! @judithg
January 10th, 2015
@boxplayer isn't that so weird....Judith said they have one too....we must have excellent taste Ayla! I love it, we have a wild boar one too. I had no idea they were Lush ones, we bought ours from a shop in Kirkby Lonsdale. That's three for Paris!
January 10th, 2015
@boxplayer no four .....I forgot Denise! @denisefuller @judithg
January 10th, 2015
What a nice thank you.
January 10th, 2015
@happypat oh I love the boar one!
January 10th, 2015
@judithg @happypat Merci beaucoup, beaucoup, beaucoup...
January 10th, 2015
This is one of my very favourite kinds of 365 shot. I heard some of that Mark Steel programme about Derry. The whole series is hilarious, you should listen out for more.
