The fish van. by happypat

The fish van.

Garstang market on a Thursday & the fish van has been standing on this site forever.
It does a roaring trade but I don't get my fish from here as I don't think it fair on the regular shop which has to pay rates.
Pat, I just googled Garstang to see where exactly it is. You are in a great location in the middle of the country. I love this type of markets in Europe, and I was amazed to see these sophisticated vans and the variety of things they bring.

Looks nice though but rates are ridiculously high. My mum used to be very particular about which fish she bought from which fish stall on Preston Market. I could never keep up but there was usually a favoured one and one who had obviously offended her at some point. I don't think she has the same choice and drama now they're down South!

@judithg I have just clicked the button on a lens like yours Judith, my Christmas present !! I checked out prices in Singapore but they couldn't compete with here amazingly!!! I was very frustrated not being able to zoom in very well! Thank you for doing the research & sorry to copy you, hope you don't mind!!!!
Lots of fish stalls on the market in Preston..no wonder you couldn't keep up!!!

@happypat No - no problem!! I'm liking it - it requires a bit more technique in terms of holding it steady etc and I'm fiddling around with exposure a bit when I zoom in a long way. It's also nice for portraits strangely enough and the leaf shots have been reasonably close and you get that very shallow DOF and (it says in the manual) basically you use it as a macro for close ups (but you don't stand too close so good for butterflies and things I hope). Zooms in quite a long way - I'm looking forward to trying it on a hockey match!

That is something we don't see in our town. We have to go to the supermarket. I wonder if the fish is any cheaper from the van.

But a clever idea...not as much overhead.

We have a local van too, but I always seem to miss it. They are very popular though. Great capture.

Sounds right to me, plus you never know how strict he / she is with keeping things cold and sanitary

Living so far from the sea, I am always wary of buying fish, though we have a fish van in the village from Grimsby every thursday. A good friend of mine's father was a fishmonger in Fleetwood and he sent us a hugebox of fish earlier this year. It was very enjoyable. A very nice shot Pat. What is your new lens, do tell....
