Hitting the spot! by happypat

Hitting the spot!

This is the robotic milker using laser beams pinpointing the spot where each teat sits ready to wash them before putting on each cluster.
It was fascinating to watch!

Alex is as good as a robot, she actually milked 800 cows through a rotary shed all by herself regularly when she had her morning job while she was at uni... not bad for a slip of a girl!
That would be interesting to see

Alex is bread from a sturdy stock Pat and doesn't shrug work -- good for her ! This robotic system is marvellous --I remember when my friend#s sister and brother in-law had it installed -- the Ist in the area -- there was a big article in the local newspaper and a snippet on the local tv news !!

I'm sure this is a godsend to the owners, yet it does bring to my mind "Brave New World. "

Had to look hard to work out what this was. Interesting stuff.

A great shot - isn't technology incredible. Alex must be a hard working lass!

@beryl @dide you are right she loves to work hard & loves milking cows. Now she has finished uni she is hoping to get a job in South Island on a dairy farm for the next season in June. There are some big farms down there.

Fascinating, the technology they use on the farm these days - we don't know the half!

Isn't it remarkable how technology can be used in our world! But the people are indispensable for so many other reasons! We need so much more than machines!
I'm sure Alex will find just the right place to be! And hope she's enjoying the remainder of her holiday!

Its hard work on a dairy farm down here in the South - up before dawn and several millings a day I believe but not sure. Huge dairy concerns going up everywhere especially in North Otago! The cows just trod up the hill forever, for miles!

@maggiemae I guy from your area called to see Fred & Lesley who own this farm. He had a contracting business called something ...Wills would it be Brian or Ellis.......he was going into dairying & was looking to milk 500 cows with robots. Oamaru Rd his address was....Fred showed me his card, they liked him. It was late last summer some time. Might be one if the farms you are talking about!

@happypat It would be Oamaru Creek Road, Pat. We went past a huge dairy farm the other day and I know that on my brother-in-law's old farm where we had wonderful holidays, there is a monstrous shed going up.

@maggiemae sounds right maggimae......this chap was researching what type of robot to get I think....dontbthink he will be getting Alfa Laval, they have had lots of problems at Fred's. The robot can't seem to find the teets sometimes so the cow goes out un milked. Three put in the same on three differnt farms & all with the same problem. Chicken sheds are a place of hell I would imagine! Smaller & more manageable is best I think....all automated but I wouldn't like to be a chicken!
