Maastricht, Netherlands . . . sounds like a lovely place, right? But because I am here for a conference, I only see the university buildings all day. Late at night, from my hotel room window, the scene on the street below. It's a city known for its fine dining (5 Michelin star restaurants), shopping (name brand shopping where I wouldn't go anyway), and a charming walking area in city center.

Traditional thinker: I can't believe it's the end of the day in a famously picturesque city and I haven't had time to take a single photo!
Sideways Thinker: I have a wonderful view of the street below from my hotel room, and this night scene captures the ambience so nicely. Perhaps it's romantic vacationers walking back to their hotel after a nice dinner out, looking into the store windows, thinking about where they might shop tomorrow.
I love the tiled streets and their patterns! Ah, the Netherlands. The last time I was supposed to go, the ash clouds grounded air traffic and my 9-day vacation I had planned for a year went up I smoke. Wah.
@darylo -- that's so sad! I remember that ash cloud over Iceland . . . I flew over it weeks after the grounding of air traffic and you could still see the ashes in the air. Perhaps it's time to dust off that itinerary and put it in place for next summer?
I like this shot and I like your thinking. The shot shows a scene that would not be seen by many people, even those living there. Capturing the couple in the street below adds interest to the shot. I also like the light spilling out from shopfronts onto the walkway.
