Living (temporarily) in Munich means that I can be at the foothills of the German Alps in 50 minutes by train for a round trip ticket of 17 euros. I started at one beautiful lake (sad not to be able to post that photo), walked up to one mountain top, walked across a small mountain range to another lake (where I saw a spectacular view from the mountain top looking down but photo didn't end up as my top three). Stopped for fresh buttermilk (with fresh wild berries) from the cows standing next to the little hut, had the best kaiserschmarrn (chopped up and stir fried pancake with lingonberries, a mountain food from Austria, I think), and stopped at every bench I met along the way to nibble on hard boiled egg, apple, cheese, kohlrabi, carrots, etc.
