Wow, we don't have thatch roofs in the US that I'm aware of. I am thinking it must be costly to repair when needed. But on the other hand roofs being repaired or replaced here is a bit costly too
A great capture! This is really fascinating to see! But I can't imagine how the workers are managing to do this in the tremendous heat that you're getting, Diana! Lots of breaks and cool drinks, perhaps. Fav
@kchuk@rensala@ollyfran@robz Thatch roofing has been used for centuries dating back to the early indigenous tribes who used grass to cover their huts.
When the European settlers arrived in the country, they brought new techniques for thatching roofs, using reeds and straw.
Most of the farmhouses and many private homes still have thatched roofs. They last between 20-60 years ;-)
Wow that is cool facts to know. I know years ago when they lacked the skills that the animals would climb into the thatch roofs to keep warm and then when it would rain they would fall through.
Hence the saying āItās raining cats and dogsā If u heard it. Not sure what countries know that saying but I have heard elders using this old saying in the uk just when it rains. Lucky it doesnāt rain cats and dogs anymore ;-)
