At the Community Gardens here in Oamaru, if they want a cuppa, this is the way the water is heated! It creates constant hot water and the lovely smell of smoke goes with it!
The lady who runs the gardens is brilliant. She told me about a school girl (there are numerous plots of vegies that are owned by various groups) who looked at some lentil soup that Annie had made and said yuk, it looks awful! Annie said don't judge until you have tried and once she tried a spoonful, she was amazed at how good it was. Annie organised the group of girls to come and make lentil soup over the fire, make bread in the pizza oven and gather salad vegies for a fabulous meal! They loved it!
@marlboromaam Mags, it's a jacketed cylinder with a central chimney where the fire made with small sticks goes up. The water is in the jacket. We grew up with them! Showing my age here!
