On our way home from visiting the Dams (photos at a later date) we set our GPS to "Shortest Route Home"! It took us on to a country road we had never been on before and we kept going till we came to a sign, "Road Closed". My husband, being of the intrepid variety, kept going and we found that further on the road had been washed out and there was quite a deep crevice in it! Our 4 wheel drive Kia took the challenge nicely and we slowly manoevered ourselves back on to the road. Just over the hill we stopped to look at the little village of Ngapara, a look we had never seen before. The name of Ngapara is derived from the Māori word for the "tables" or plateaus of limestone in the area. There are also old coal mines in the area and a flour mill established in 1889 is still functioning. The tall range of mountains in the background are called the Kakanuis.
It becomes a beautiful pastoral scene when you view enlarged and you can listen to this beautiful piece of music - http://youtu.be/uKFiR8GvUY4
What an amazing shot, Maggiemae. Love the color. Sounds like it's a good thing you have a 4 wheel drive ; )
My husband always questions our "Garmina" and I keep telling him to "trust her". Now you have to know, Allan has a great sense of direction. Garmina has never sent us the wrong way.
Gorgeous landscape shot. I love the layers you captured. Thanks for the symphony clip. This is my favorite symphony with The Grand Canyon Suite being my second favorite.
What a wonderful treat! thank you Maggie. We call our GPS Jane I usually call her very bad names, I do not like or trust her at all. I am partial to good old fashioned maps!
@chard Yes, it originally said it was going to take us 1hr 40 mins for a 50 min drive! It didn't take that long so you just wait for it to modify its time and it becomes real!
