This is my nephew riding the beach that his Grandfather raced on. That's Burt Munro and Oreti Beach is now known as his home racing ground. Its flat and hard and goes for miles. Oreti beach is in Invercargill and the film, "The Worlds Fastest Indian" was partly filmed here. Burt was my husband's father.
Wow Maggie you have some linage. The story of Burt is very inspirational. The movie on his life is one of my favorite movies.
This is an awesome shot and it transported me straight to the salt flats where the world record was set.
Burt Munro was your F-I-L ? Wow !!! You have the most interesting relatives :) TWFI is a superb film - I saw an interview with Anthony Hopkins shortly after the film came out in which he said that playing Burt was one of the most enjoyable roles he'd ever played, and it is easy to see why. Do they still contest the Burt Munro trophy there ??
Wow outstanding action capture Maggie! I love the colors in this one! Super awesome about Burt being your Father in Law! So cool to have such an interesting family connection!
@karenann sad to Karen - because the nephew has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and here he is doing what he always wanted to do - ride in his grandfather's footsteps!
Great shot, love the high key with all this light and the silhouette of your nephew, sad to hear about his cancer...hope riding in his grandfather's footsteps made him feel happy.
Oh what a read. There are such wonderful comments about the movie, the beach, your shot and how proud you must be and then you let us all know about the cancer. It is such an insipid disease that cares for no-one and just turns lives upside down. Much like this thread. Thoughts go out to your nephew.
